2025 Candidate - Chapter Dean of Membership
Biography
Let me take this opportunity to introduce myself to those of you who may not know me. I am Attorney Shawn Pullum and I am a dynamic personal injury attorney whose career spans over 25 years in Corporate IT and legal practice. With a robust foundation in technology and an impressive transition into the legal arena, I bring a unique blend of analytical prowess, technical expertise, and compassionate client advocacy to every case I handle. My journey from the heart of Corporate America to becoming a trusted legal professional is a testament to my drive, resilience, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
Over the course of my 25+ years in the corporate world, working for both IBM and AT&T, I have not only excelled as an engineer but also embraced roles that involved training and instructing personnel on a variety of technical subjects. My tenure at the University of Phoenix as an instructor—spanning over 14 years—allowed me to share my knowledge with both undergraduate and graduate students. This teaching experience sharpened my communication skills and deepened my understanding of the importance of education, a value that I continue to uphold in my legal practice.
I have brought this same drive, determination, and commitment to my fraternal and community efforts. Being active in community service to the different communities where I previously lived (San Jose, CA; Tucson, AZ; Baton Rouge, LA), it has truly come to the forefront for me here in Dallas, Texas. Being active in projects giving back to the homeless, educating and mentoring students of all ages, and others, demonstrated my deep commitment to the Dallas-Fort Worth community.
New opportunities to serve were presented to me in November of 2021, when the brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, Alpha Sigma Lambda Chapter, saw fit to open the door to the House of Alpha, and About Phace was eternally Phrozen therein. I have been working since that time to live up to the lofty aims, mission, and objectives of Alpha Phi Alpha, as my Alpha resume shows. I know, however, that this is just the tip of the iceberg, and that I have a long way to go in achieving my goals, in my love of all mankind, and to be a better servant of all.

Chapter Dean of Membership
My Candidacy
It would be an honor and a privilege to continue to serve as Chapter Dean of Membership Development for our chapter. Alpha Phi Alpha has been a guiding force in my life—not just as a fraternity, but in my early life through the men I saw as mentors, uncles, and family and as a brotherhood that has sharpened my character, grounded my purpose, and connected me with men of distinction and integrity. Every time I reflect on my journey, I’m reminded that someone took the time to uphold the values of Alpha and walk beside me as I transitioned into this great brotherhood. From the time I crossed, I have believed and acted as it was my time to do the same.
Professionally, I’ve been fortunate to lead in several high-impact environments—as a litigation intake attorney, general counsel, patent attorney, systems engineer, and educator. Whether building legal strategy, guiding engineers, or mentoring students, I’ve always focused on developing people, processes, and purpose. I bring that same energy and intentionality into Alpha. I'm IMDP and Risk Management certified, and fully familiar with the responsibilities of this role. More importantly, I take seriously what it means to protect the integrity of our intake process—ensuring that those who seek to wear our letters do so with understanding, accountability, and love for the brotherhood.
I will handle IMDP with transparency, structure, and consistency, while also making sure the spirit of Alpha remains alive in every interaction. I know the IMDP process isn’t just about procedure—it’s about transformation. It's about cultivating men who will carry Alpha's legacy forward with honor. I want our candidates to feel the depth of our history, the joy of our fellowship, and the weight of our responsibility to our communities. In addition, I will work to bring back inactive brothers, promote life membership, and help our graduating brothers transition smoothly into alumni life—because brotherhood doesn’t end at the graduation stage or the final exam. It’s lifelong. And we owe it to each other to nurture that bond. With your trust, I’ll serve with integrity, humility, and a deep commitment to the ideals we all share. Let’s continue to build—not just numbers, but brothers!

The Past
November 13, 2021, Key #139 opened a door to a HOUSE that I've walked into and never looked back! Since entering the House of Alpha, I have recognized the privileges that it offers, and made it a point to be an active and engaged part of the team responsible for upholding the standards and protecting the house. I have been engaged in every Area 1 intake process, since crossing the burning sands myself, as well as making myself available to the chapters in the area for Informationals, projects, and as a resource for retreats.
The Present
I am the current Chapter Dean of Membership for the Alpha Sigma Lambda Chapter in Dallas, Texas, and I am running to continue in that role for 2025-2026 Fraternal Year. I am working on multiple activities and engagements to connect our interested candidates to our existing brotherhood. I am also the Assistant Chapter Advisor for the Eta Epsilon Chapter housed on the campus of the University of North Texas, Denton.

The Future
I am here for LIFE! I am ALPHA FOR LIFE!! As I embrace the LIMITLESSNESS of Alpha Phi Alpha, and its Esprit De Fraternite, I cannot tell you exactly what my future in Alpha holds. What I can say is that I am looking forward to the journey!
